Match 39 – Bangladesh Vs South Africa at Mirpur


  1. Bangladesh registered their second team score below 100 in this tournament.
    1. Both the low scores were in Mirpur
    2. On both the occasions Bangladesh batted second
    3. Bangladesh now joins Canada, Ireland and Namibia among the teams to be dismissed below 100 twice in World cup matches.
  2. Shafiul Islam, for the second consecutive match was the only Bangladesh bowler who was not among the wickets, this time he was the most expensive bowler in the whole match with 44 runs scored of his 5 overs.
  3. Shakib Al Hassan was the only Bangladesh batsman to score in double digits.  He was dismissed with the team score on 61 in which he had scored almost half the runs (30).
  4. Jack Kallis (69) improved his World cup batting record in this edition. Prior to this match, he had scored just 109 runs in his 5 innings in this World cup, joining the list of under scoring five World cup veterans such as Chanderpaul (West Indies) and Ponting (Australia).
  5. Du Plessis scored his first World cup fifty and the second of his career.

Match 38 – New Zealand Vs Sri Lanka at Mumbai


  1. Tim Southee (3-63) has now claimed 66 wickets in 49 matches. He is also the second leading wicket taker in the tournament with 14 wickets.
  2. Contrary to its previous two matches New Zealand scored just one sixer in this match. New Zealand scored more than 12 sixes in each of its previous 2 matches.
  3. Ross Taylor has scored 13 sixes in his last 3 matches, and is still the leading scorer of sixes in the tournament.
  4. New Zealand has scored 26 sixes and only nine sixes have been scored against them, in its last three matches.
  5. Ross Taylor has now scored 238 runs in his last 3 matches in this World cup.  Interestingly, prior to the last 3 matches, he had scored just 114 runs in his 7 World cup innings.
  6. Muralitharan (playing in his 36th World cup match already) has been among the wickets in all matches in this World cup so far and his overall tally of wickets in World cups is now at 64.

Match 37 – Ireland Vs The Netherlands at Kolkata


  1. Netherlands have lost all their 6 matches.
  2. Doeschate followed up with a fifty in his previous innings with a century in this match. This is his second World cup hundred and fifth overall in his career. He is now the seventh leading run scorer in the tournament with 307 runs.
  3. Very similar to the previous Netherlands match (against Bangladesh), there were as many as four run outs in the Netherlands innings (Buurman, Bukhari, Seelar and Adeel Raja) which is just the eleventh instance in a World cup match.  In the match against Bangladesh, four Netherlands batsmen were dismissed run-out as well.
  4. Adeel Raja interestingly was the only batsman run out on both the matches.
  5. Adeel Raja didn’t claim a wicket in this match and hence his last wicket in a World cup match remains as in 2003 when he claimed 4-42 against Namibia.
  6. The O’Brien brothers have finished the tournament within a close range of each other in terms of the runs accumulated – Nathan – 205 runs and Kevin – 198 runs.
  7. Paul Stirling (101), prior to his first world cup century in this match, had scored just 56 runs in his last 5 innings.

Match 36 – England Vs West Indies at Chennai


  1. England has had a topsy-turvy campaign so far with four wins and two losses.
  2. Only three among the six West Indian bowlers were among the wickets, though England was dismissed inside their 50 overs quota – Russel, Roach and Bishoo.
  3. Trott (47) almost scored his fifth half century in this tournament. Nevertheless, he top scored for England and is the second leading run scorer in the tournament (as on March 18) with 336 runs.
  4. Strauss (31) could not get back to the form he started the tournament with, but is still the third leading run scorer of the tournament so far with 329 runs.
  5. James Tredwell (4-48) has never claimed a wicket in 3 one dayers he played prior to this match.
  6. Andre Russel bagged a four wicket haul in just his second match.
  7. Suleiman Benn has now opened the bowling for the West Indies in all their five matches.
  8. Darren Sammy in just his ninth completed match as captain of the West Indies has won five of those matches in charge and which includes just 2 against a Test playing nation.
  9. West Indies conceded 22 runs as extras in this match (more than the margin in which they lost the match). Prior to this match, they conceded just 4 runs as an extra in terms of a wide in their last four matches.
  10. Very similar to the previous West Indies match against Ireland, six of the 20 batsmen were dismissed bowled, Seven batsmen of the 20 wickets in the West Indies-Ireland match were dismissed bowled.

  1. Ashish Bagai (39) also the second top scorer for Canada in the match has scored 187 runs in his last 3 innings.
  2. W.D. Balaji Rao went wicket-less for the first time in his last five matches.
  3. Ricky Ponting has scored just 83 runs in four innings in this World cup edition which includes just six hits to the boundary and remains in the bottom of the list if batsmen with more than four World cup appearances, in terms of the runs scored.
  4. Shaun Tait (2-34) continues to have a good run in World cups and has now claimed 33 wickets in 16 matches. Outside World cups, Tait has claimed 28 wickets in 17 matches. He has now claimed 10 wickets in this World cup edition so far.
  5. Mitchell Johnson (1-43) has claimed 9 wickets in five matches in this World cup, which includes 8 wickets in his first 2 matches.
  6. John Davison in his last match for Canada was back to his original opening batting position and also claimed a wicket (of Haddin).
  7. Whatham became the 30th cricketer to make his one day debut for Canada in a World Cup match.
  8. Davison became the second player after Javed Miandad of Pakistan to retire after a World cup match ending their team’s progress further  in the tournament.

Match 34 – Ireland Vs South Africa at Kolkata


  1. Contrary to the previous World cup match played by South Africa (against India), in which there were five half centurions and a centurion, there was only one half centurion in this match, Duminy, who missed his century by a run.
  2. Dale Steyn who became the fifth South African bowler to capture five wickets in an innings in a World Cup match in the previous match, was the only South African bowler who didn’t claim a wicket, though he just bowled 4 overs.
  3. Jack Kallis (19) has scored just 109 runs in his 5 innings in this World cup, joining the list of under scoring five World cup veterans such as Chanderpaul (West Indies) and Ponting (Australia).
  4. All Irish bowlers who bowled more than 5 overs were among the wickets.
  5. Interestingly, the last 2 opponents of Ireland (West Indies and now South Africa) have both conceded just 4 runs as an extra in terms of a wide.
  6. Van Wyk claimed four catches in the match for South Africa.
  7. J. Kallis has been run out for three times in World cup matches now, the most by a South African.

  1. Shahid Afridi (1-33) is continuing to be the leading wicket taker in this edition with 16 wickets overall. Prior to this edition, he had claimed just 7 wickets in 12 world cup matches.
  2. Afridi however is continuing to have a disappointing World up with the bat as he has scored just 188 runs in 16 World cup innings.
  3. In contract to Pakistan’s previous match in which 15 sixes were scored overall (against New Zealand), no sixes were scored in this match.
  4. Umar Gul, for the second consecutive match claimed 3 wickets and has claimed 10 wickets overall in his 5 matches in this World cup edition so far.
  5. Abdur Razzaq, who gave away 49 runs in 4 overs in his previous match, came back strongly with 1-24 in 7 overs..
  6. Craig Ervine (52) scored his second World cup half century in this edition, becoming the 12th Zimbabwean to achieve the feat.
  7. Asad Shafiq’s unbeaten 78is his highest score in one day internationals.
  8. Mohammed Hafeez (49) missed out on his first half century in 11 matches this year. He has just one hundred in his last 11 innings and has scored less than 100 runs in this World cup so far, being an opening batsman.

  1. Bangladesh registered their first consecutive wins in this tournament.
  2. Netherlands have now lost all their 5 matches.
  3. Shafiul Islam was the only Bangladesh bowler who was not among the wickets, though he was the most economical giving away just 15 runs in his 9.3 overs.
  4. Tamim Iqbal scored his second duck of the tournament. He has now scored as many as 10 ducks in his 94 innings career so far.
  5. Doeschate scored 50 or more runs after a gap of 3 matches, since his 119 against England in the first match. This is his third World cup fifty and ninth overall in his career.
  6. There were as many as four run outs in the Netherlands innings (E. Szwarczynski, Tom Cooper, P. Borren and Adeel Raja) which is just the tenth instance in a World cup match.
  7. Shahriar Nafees reached a milestone of 2000+ runs in one day internationals, becoming the fifth Bangladesh batsman reach the landmark.
  8. Imrul Kayes’ unbeaten 73 is the highest individual score by a Bangladeshi opening batsman in a World Cup match. The previous best was in the same edition (70 by Tamim Iqbal against India at Dhaka earlier in the tournament).
  9. Adeel Raja played his first World cup match in this edition. This is his third World cup appearance for the Netherlands. He went wicket-less. His last wicket in a World cup match was in 2003 when he claimed 4-42 against Namibia.
