Match 18 – New Zealand Vs Zimbabwe at Ahmedabad


  1. New Zealand played just their second match in Ahmedabad, both the matches not against India and has won both the matches.
  2. Hamish Bennett, who claimed 6 wickets for New Zealand in the first 2 matches was the only New Zealand bowler to have bowled more than 4 overs and didn’t claim a wicket.
  3. Utseya, Cremer and Price, batted at numbers 8, 9 and 10 respectively for Zimbabwe and scored nearly 43% of the total score.
  4. Interestingly both the teams conceded just 4 extras respectively.
  5. This victory margin (10 wickets) is already New Zealand’s second in the tournament in three matches.
  6. Tim Southee (3-29) has now claimed 59 wickets in 46 matches. Interestingly, Southee has claimed just 7 wickets in his last seven matches after his five wicket haul against Pakistan in Wellington in January 2011.
  7. Martin Guptill’s unbeaten 86 is his first in World cup matches and tenth overall in his limited overs career. His two sixes in the match has ensured that he maintains his better sixes:matches ration as he has already scored 31 sixes in his 45 innings career so far.
  8. Brendon McCullum’s unbeaten 76 is also just his second World cup fifty in 13 innings and 19th overall in his career.

Match 17 – Canada Vs Pakistan at Colombo


  1. Pakistan remains the only team so far to have won all three of their opening matches.
  2. Shahid Afridi (5-23) claimed his fifth five wicket haul in limited overs cricket and is continuing to be the leading wicket taker in this edition with 14 wickets overall. Prior to this edition, he had claimed just 7 wickets in 12 world cup matches.
  3. Afridi, however is continuing to have a disappointing World up with the bat as he has scored just 168 runs in 14 World cup innings with an uncharacteristic just 5 hits beyond the boundary.
  4. Umar Akmal (Pakistan) and Hansra (Canada) were the only batsman to score a six in the match.
  5. No batsman scored a fifty in this match.
  6. All Canadian bowlers except Khurram Chohan and TGGordon who combined to bowl 4 overs between them, were among the wickets.
  7. All Pakistani bowlers except Mohammed Hafeez were among the wickets as well.
  8. Misbah Ul Haq (37) is now the fourth leading run getter in this tournament with 185 runs in 3 matches.
  9. Saeed Ajmal, who played his first World cup match and claimed his first World cup wicket as well, returned to the Pakistan one day team after 4 months.

Match 16 – Netherlands Vs South Africa at Mohali


  1. Hashim Amla scored his first World cup ton in just his second match and the 8th hundred overall in his one day career.
  2. Unlike the previous match, South Africa began their bowling with two regular fast bowlers. J. Botha didn’t play in this match as well.
  3. AB DeVilliers (134) scored his third World cup hundred and a second consecutive hundred in this edition. This ton is also the eleventh of his limited overs career, overall.
  4. Imran Tahir (3-19), who became the first South African since the 1992 World cup to make his career debut in a World cup match has now claimed 7 wickets in his first two matches.
  5. Jack Kallis(2) is not having the best of starts in this World cup and has scored just 6 runs in the first two matches in this edition so far. Interestingly, in his last 10 innings he has not scored in double figures only thrice including the last 2 matches and this sequence of matches included five knocks over fifty.
  6. Ryan ten Doeschate, who scored a career best 119 against England earlier in this tournament, claimed his best bowling figures in World cups (3-72 in this match).
  7. As many as three Dutch bowlers gave away more than 70 runs.
  8. JP Duminy (40*) for the second consecutive match remained unbeaten in the forties. He has now scored 82 runs in two matches, facing just 68 deliveries and has hit three fours and four sixes.

Match 15 – England Vs Ireland at Bangalore


  1. Kevin O’Brien (113):
    1. Scored the fastest century in World cup cricket of fifty deliveries.
    2. The only centurion of the match in which 656 runs were scored, coming into bat at number 6 for Ireland
    3. Scored six sixes, one more than the number of sixes the entire England team managed to score.
    4. Now is the only Irish batsman to score a sixer in both their World cup games.
    5. Is the sixth leading run scorer in the tournament (150 runs in 2 matches).
    6. Is now the leading run scorer for Ireland in one day cricket (1486 runs in 54 matches at an average of 36.2 and has scored 40 sixes as well).
  2. Anderson’s 1-49 in 8.1 overs is his most economical spell in the three World cup matches he has played. He has now given 212 runs in this World cup edition of his 28 overs with just 2 wickets.
  3. For the second consecutive match, Bangalore witnessed both teams scoring well in excess of 300 runs.
  4. Graeme Swann (3-47) claimed 3 wickets in 4 overs , which is now his best returns in a World cup match.
  5. Trott (92) and Bell (81) scored their second half centuries in this tournament, while Pietersen (59) scored his first of the edition.
  6. Ireland lost 7 wickets in the match overall which included a wicket of the first ball of their innings and three wickets within a space of four overs.
  7. JF Mooney finished with most wickets among bowlers from both the sides with 4-63, scored an unbeaten 33 with the bat coming in at number 8 and hitting the winning runs as well.

Match 14 –Sri Lanka Vs Kenya at Colombo


  1. Sri Lanka won the math by nine wickets and scored the required 143 runs in just 18.4 overs, but their innings didn’t include even a single sixer.
  2. Lasith Malinga became the second bowler in successive matches to claim six wickets that included a hat-trick after Kemar Roach achieved the feat against the Netherlands in the previous match.
  3. Malinga has an impressive World cup record of 24 wickets in just nine matches and 120 wickets in 78 matches overall in his career.
  4. Tharanga (67*) scored his 19th limited overs career half century
  5. Muralitharan (playing in his 34th World cup match already) has been among the wickets in all matches in this World cup so far and his overall tally of wickets in World cups is 57.
  6. Malinga’s hat-trick is also the seventh by a bowler in World cup cricket. Incidentally this is his second hat-trick in World cup, the only bowler to have achieved this feat.
  7. The Obuya brothers (Collins and David) both scored half centuries for Kenya in the match. Interestingly they were the only batsmen to score in double digits. Collins scored his 8th career fifty while David scored his 6th.
  8. Four of the six dismissals of Malinga in this match were “Bowled”.

Match 13 – Netherlands Vs West Indies at Delhi


  1. Devon Smith (53) managed his first one day half century in one and a half years. This is also just his fourth half century in 34 matches.
  2. The match witnessed a rare event of Chris Gayle outscored by his opening partner when the first wicket fell for the West Indies.
  3. Suleiman Benn opened the bowling for the West Indies for the second consecutive match.
  4. Chris Gayle (80) scored his 43rd one day fifty. He fell one short of his 8000th run in one day cricket. He has scored a half century almost after a gap of a year and has missed to score one in his last 10 matches.
  5. Keiron Pollard (60) almost overhauled his career best one day score of 62. He scored four sixes in the match and has now scored 27 sixes in 31 innings of his career so far.
  6. Darren Sammy in just his sixth completed match as captain of the West Indies has now won three of those matches in charge. All his wins as skipper have been against non test playing nations – Canada, Ireland and Netherlands.
  7. West Indies for the second consecutive match didn’t concede a single wide in their 2 runs as extras conceded.
  8. Kemar Roach (6-27) became the fourth bowler in the annals of the World cup to claim a hat-trick. This is Roach’s second career five wicket haul in 17 matches. He has claimed 33 wickets in his career so far.
  9. Tom Cooper’s unbeaten 55 is already his 6th half century in 12 matches. He has now scored 691 runs at an average of 69 with a hundred as well.

Match 12 – Canada Vs Zimbabwe at Nagpur


  1. John Davison (aged 40 years), who was a revelation in the 2003 World cup and also Canada’s all-time leading run scorer managed second consecutive duck in this tournament and also went wicket-less for 56 runs in his 8 overs.
  2. N.R. Kumar became the youngest cricketer to represent a country in World cup matches (aged 16).
  3. Surkari, who came into bat at number 7 was the top scorer for Canada with 26.
  4. W.D. Balaji Rao claimed his career best bowling figures with 4-47 in this match. Prior to this match he had claimed just 3 wickets in 5 matches. He became the second Canadian bowler to claim four or more wickets in the World Cup behind A Codrington’s 5 for 27 against Bangladesh in the 2003 edition.
  5. Taibu (98) scored his 17th limited overs half century.
  6. Ervine managed just his second half century in 16matches.
  7. Wicket-keepers had contrasting fortunes in this game, interestingly:
    1. Taibu – 98 runs with the bat and two stumpings
    2. Bagai – Dismissed for no score and claimed three catches
  8. Cremer claimed his 50th one day wicket and became the 15th Zimbabwean bowler to achieve the landmark in one-dayers.
  9. Zimbabwe’s whopping 175 run victory margin is their first in terms of win by over 100 runs in a World cup match.
  10. Canada’s AS Hansra and John Davison were the only bowlers in the entire match to have given more than 6 runs an over. They gave away 97 runs in 12 overs between them.
