  1. The match result was a repeat of the 1996 edition, Sri Lanka winning England on both the occasions.
  2. Muralitharan (playing in his 37th World cup match already) has been among the wickets in all matches in this World cup so far and his overall tally of wickets in World cups is now at 66.
  3. Rangana Herath was the only Sri Lankan bowler not to be among the wickets in the match while no England bowlers claimed a wicket.
  4. Dilshan (108*) scored his second World cup hundred in 16 innings and tenth of his career overall. He is also now the second highest run getter in this World cup with 394 runs in 7 matches. Both his World cup hundreds have been scored in this edition.
  5. Upul Tharanga (102*) scored his eleventh limited overs career century and also his second in 18 World cup innings.
  6. Tharanga and Dishan have lot of common parameters in terms of their batting statistics, though Tharanga is almost 10 years younger to Dilshan:
    1. Both scored their first world cup hundreds in the same match (against Zimbabwe) in this edition
    2. Both have scored more than 10 or more one day hundreds
    3. They have appeared in the last 2 World cups for Sri Lanka
  7. England’s World cup campaign ended as a topsy-turvy one with four wins and three losses.
  8. Trott (86) scored his fifth half century in this tournament. Nevertheless, he top scored for England and is the leading run scorer in the tournament with 422 runs.
  9. Strauss (5) could not get back to the form he started the tournament with, but is still the ninth leading run scorer of the tournament so far with 334 runs.
  10. James Tredwell’s 4 wickets against the West Indies, still remains his only wickets in one day cricket in 5 matches he has played.
  11. Muralitharan is the only surviving member of the Sri Lankan side that has won England twice in World cup quarter finals (in 1996 and 2011). Interestingly Muralitharan claimed 2 wickets on both the matches.
  12. Graeme Swann had a real off day as he was the most expensive England bowler (economy rate 6.77) and also was dismissed for a golden duck.
  13. Now three of the four Semi finalists in this tournament are from the sub continent.
  14. Sri Lanka will now be facing New Zealand for the second consecutive instance in a World cup semi final match.
