QF 1 – Pakistan Vs West Indies at Mirpur


  1. West Indies became the first team to play in back to back matches in this World cup.
  2. West Indies have lost three consecutive matches and bowed out of the tournament. This is the second time they have lost to Pakistan in a sub continent in a World cup and bowed out of the tournament (first was in 1987).
  3. Mohammed Hafeez (61*) brought an end to his poor batting record with a just one hundred in his last 13 innings, prior to this match. He also had impressive bowling returns with 2-16 in 10 overs.
  4. Shahid Afridi (4-30) is continuing to be the leading wicket taker in this edition with 21 wickets overall. Prior to this edition, he had claimed just 7 wickets in 12 world cup matches.
  5. West Indies have won and lost matches by 10 wickets in this tournament.
  6. Suleiman Benn, the only spinner to have  opened the bowling for a side in this World cup for six consecutive matches did not play in this match
  7. Abdur Razzaq, who gave away 49 runs in 4 overs in Pakistan’s fourth match in this edition has since then  come back strongly and in the last 3 matches, has given away just 36 runs in 15 overs and has claimed 4 wickets as well.
  8. Darren Sammy in just his eleventh completed match as captain of the West Indies has won just five of those matches in charge and which includes just 2 wins against a Test playing nation.
  9. As many as 8 West Indian batsmen were dismissed for single digit scores in this match.
  10. Umar Gul (1-13), has claimed 14 wickets overall in his 7 matches in this World cup edition so far.
  11. Chris Gayle achieved a milestone of 600 World cup runs, becoming the seventh West Indian batsman to reach the milestone, which includes Brian Lara, Sir Viv Richards, Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, and Richie Richardson.
  12. The match witnessed an embarrassing first instance of four West Indian batsmen scoring ducks in a world cup match.
  13. Afridi now becomes the first bowler to capture four 4 wicket hauls in a single World cup edition.
  14. Pakistan also had their first 10 wicket victory in a World cup match. Incidentally West Indies won by 10 wickets over Pakistan in the 1992 World cup.
