Match 42 – India Vs West Indies at Chennai


  1. West Indies have lost two consecutive matches in Chennai, both chasing a total less than 300.

Match 41 -Australia Vs Kenya at Kolkata


  1. Craig Ervine (66) scored his third World cup half century in this edition.
  2. Zimbabwe’s whopping 161 run victory margin is their second in terms of win by over 100 runs in a World cup match. They have achieved both their highest margin victories in this edition (against Canada and Kenya respectively).
  3. Taibu scored his second fifty in the tournament.
  4. All Zimbabwean bowlers were among the wickets in the match.
  5. Thomas Odoyo, who opened the bowling for Kenya in all its matches in this tournament didn’t bowl even a single over in this match.
  6. The match ended the international career of Kenya’s Steve Tikolo, who along with Odoyo is the only player to have appeared in five World cups for Kenya starting from the 1996 edition.
  7. Kenya now joins the Netherlands as the only teams to have lost all their matches in this tournament.

Match 40 –Australia Vs Pakistan at Colombo


  1. Pakistan becomes the first team to break the Australia’s world cup win juggernaut of 34 wins. Incidentally Pakistan was the last side to beat Australia in a world cup game, this was in 1999.
  2. Shahid Afridi (1-34) is continuing to be the leading wicket taker in this edition with 17 wickets overall. Prior to this edition, he had claimed just 7 wickets in 12 world cup matches.
  3. Afridi (2) however is continuing to have a disappointing World up with the bat as he has scored just 190 runs in 17 World cup innings.
  4. Umar Akmal and Brad Haddin were the only batsmen to have scored sixers in this match.
  5. Umar Gul (3-30), for the third consecutive match claimed 3 wickets and has claimed 13 wickets overall in his 6 matches in this World cup edition so far.
  6. Abdur Razzaq, who gave away 49 runs in 4 overs in Pakistan’s fourth match in this edition has since then  come back strongly and in the last 2 matches, has given away just 32 runs in 11 overs and has claimed 3 wickets as well. He is also the fourth leading wicket taker in the tournament (joint with Baidwan and Kemar Roach).

  1. Bangladesh registered their second team score below 100 in this tournament.
    1. Both the low scores were in Mirpur
    2. On both the occasions Bangladesh batted second
    3. Bangladesh now joins Canada, Ireland and Namibia among the teams to be dismissed below 100 twice in World cup matches.
  2. Shafiul Islam, for the second consecutive match was the only Bangladesh bowler who was not among the wickets, this time he was the most expensive bowler in the whole match with 44 runs scored of his 5 overs.
  3. Shakib Al Hassan was the only Bangladesh batsman to score in double digits.  He was dismissed with the team score on 61 in which he had scored almost half the runs (30).
  4. Jack Kallis (69) improved his World cup batting record in this edition. Prior to this match, he had scored just 109 runs in his 5 innings in this World cup, joining the list of under scoring five World cup veterans such as Chanderpaul (West Indies) and Ponting (Australia).
