Match 38 – New Zealand Vs Sri Lanka at Mumbai


  1. Tim Southee (3-63) has now claimed 66 wickets in 49 matches. He is also the second leading wicket taker in the tournament with 14 wickets.
  2. Contrary to its previous two matches New Zealand scored just one sixer in this match. New Zealand scored more than 12 sixes in each of its previous 2 matches.
  3. Ross Taylor has scored 13 sixes in his last 3 matches, and is still the leading scorer of sixes in the tournament.
  4. New Zealand has scored 26 sixes and only nine sixes have been scored against them, in its last three matches.
  5. Ross Taylor has now scored 238 runs in his last 3 matches in this World cup.  Interestingly, prior to the last 3 matches, he had scored just 114 runs in his 7 World cup innings.
  6. Muralitharan (playing in his 36th World cup match already) has been among the wickets in all matches in this World cup so far and his overall tally of wickets in World cups is now at 64.
  7. As many as 8 New Zealand bowlers bowled in this match.
  8. For the second consecutive match a Sri Lankan bowler claimed 4 wickets.

Match 37 – Ireland Vs The Netherlands at Kolkata


  1. Netherlands have lost all their 6 matches.
  2. Doeschate followed up with a fifty in his previous innings with a century in this match. This is his second World cup hundred and fifth overall in his career. He is now the seventh leading run scorer in the tournament with 307 runs.
  3. Very similar to the previous Netherlands match (against Bangladesh), there were as many as four run outs in the Netherlands innings (Buurman, Bukhari, Seelar and Adeel Raja) which is just the eleventh instance in a World cup match.  In the match against Bangladesh, four Netherlands batsmen were dismissed run-out as well.
  4. Adeel Raja interestingly was the only batsman run out on both the matches.
  5. Adeel Raja didn’t claim a wicket in this match and hence his last wicket in a World cup match remains as in 2003 when he claimed 4-42 against Namibia.
  6. The O’Brien brothers have finished the tournament within a close range of each other in terms of the runs accumulated – Nathan – 205 runs and Kevin – 198 runs.
  7. Paul Stirling (101), prior to his first world cup century in this match, had scored just 56 runs in his last 5 innings.

Match 36 – England Vs West Indies at Chennai


  1. England has had a topsy-turvy campaign so far with four wins and two losses.
  2. Only three among the six West Indian bowlers were among the wickets, though England was dismissed inside their 50 overs quota – Russel, Roach and Bishoo.
  3. Trott (47) almost scored his fifth half century in this tournament. Nevertheless, he top scored for England and is the second leading run scorer in the tournament (as on March 18) with 336 runs.
  4. Strauss (31) could not get back to the form he started the tournament with, but is still the third leading run scorer of the tournament so far with 329 runs.
  5. James Tredwell (4-48) has never claimed a wicket in 3 one dayers he played prior to this match.
  6. Andre Russel bagged a four wicket haul in just his second match.
  7. Suleiman Benn has now opened the bowling for the West Indies in all their five matches.
  8. Darren Sammy in just his ninth completed match as captain of the West Indies has won five of those matches in charge and which includes just 2 against a Test playing nation.
  9. West Indies conceded 22 runs as extras in this match (more than the margin in which they lost the match). Prior to this match, they conceded just 4 runs as an extra in terms of a wide in their last four matches.
  10. Very similar to the previous West Indies match against Ireland, six of the 20 batsmen were dismissed bowled, Seven batsmen of the 20 wickets in the West Indies-Ireland match were dismissed bowled.
  11. Chennai continues to be a witness to low scoring matches in this World cup edition so far and this is the first among the three matches played here in which both the teams scored totals more than 200.

Match 35 – Australia Vs Canada at Bangalore


  1. Ashish Bagai (39) also the second top scorer for Canada in the match has scored 187 runs in his last 3 innings.
  2. W.D. Balaji Rao went wicket-less for the first time in his last five matches.
  3. Ricky Ponting has scored just 83 runs in four innings in this World cup edition which includes just six hits to the boundary and remains in the bottom of the list if batsmen with more than four World cup appearances, in terms of the runs scored.
  4. Shaun Tait (2-34) continues to have a good run in World cups and has now claimed 33 wickets in 16 matches. Outside World cups, Tait has claimed 28 wickets in 17 matches. He has now claimed 10 wickets in this World cup edition so far.
  5. Mitchell Johnson (1-43) has claimed 9 wickets in five matches in this World cup, which includes 8 wickets in his first 2 matches.
  6. John Davison in his last match for Canada was back to his original opening batting position and also claimed a wicket (of Haddin).
  7. Whatham became the 30th cricketer to make his one day debut for Canada in a World Cup match.
  8. Davison became the second player after Javed Miandad of Pakistan to retire after a World cup match ending their team’s progress further  in the tournament.
  9. Now both the Australian new ball bowlers have 30 plus wickets in World cups alone – Lee (30) and Tait (33).
  10. Ponting’s wicket was Osinde’s 41st in limited overs cricket and he is now the most successful Canadian bowler (record shared with John Davison) in terms of most wickets.
