Match 29 – India Vs South Africa at Nagpur


  1. Virender Sehwag for five consecutive matches in a row has opened the scoring with a boundary. Sehwag is the leading run scorer in the tournament with 327 runs in 5 innings.
  2. Sachin Tendulkar (111) had plenty of records in this match:
    1. The first cricketer to score more than one World cup 100 in his sixth world cup edition.
    2. Scored his sixth World cup hundred
    3. Scored his first World cup hundred against South Africa and his fourth world cup 100 in the sub continent.
  3. Zaheer Khan has now claimed 12 wickets in the tournament so far and is now the joint second leading wicket-taker in this tournament.
  4. India lost its last nine wickets for just 29 runs. Incidentally in its last match South Africa lost its last seven wickets for just 41 runs.
  5. The match witnessed five half centurions and one centurion.
  6. Indian bowlers bowled just 1 wide in their 49.4 overs bowled.
  7. Interestingly, for the first time since the 1975 World cup, the first three batsmen of a side have all scored fifty plus runs in an innings.
  8. Dale Steyn (5-50), became the fifth South African bowler to capture five wickets in an innings in a World Cup match.
  9. Jack Kallis (69) scored his first major knock in this tournament. Prior to this match he has scored just 21 runs in the first three matches in this edition.
  10. Hashim Amla (61) has now scored fifty or more runs in an innings on six of his last 11 one day innings.
