Match 24 – New Zealand Vs Pakistan at Pallekele


  1. With the defeat for Pakistan, now no team in this World cup has won all their matches so far.
  2. Tim Southee (3-25) has now claimed 62 wickets in 47 matches.
  3. Shahid Afridi (1-55) is continuing to be the leading wicket taker in this edition with 15 wickets overall. Prior to this edition, he had claimed just 7 wickets in 12 world cup matches.
  4. Afridi, however is continuing to have a disappointing World up with the bat as he has scored just 185 runs in 15 World cup innings.
  5. New Zealand hit a mammoth thirteen sixes including seven by Ross Taylor alone in contrast to just two sixes hit by Pakistan.
  6. Umar Gul was the only Pakistan batsman who had a good match overall. He claimed three wickets, scored a career best unbeaten 34 and was involved in a 66 run ninth wicket partnership with Abdur Razzaq.
  7. Martin Guptill’s 57 is his second and consecutive fifty in World cup matches and eleventh overall in his limited overs career.
  8. Abdur Razzaq had an indifferent match. He gave away 49 runs at 12.25 runs per over and scored 62 runs (top score for Pakistan) of 74 deliveries coming into bat at number 8.
  9. Ross Taylor, prior to his 131 in this match had scored just 114 runs in his 7 World cup innings.
  10. Taylor’s 131 is also his career best one day score and his fourth ton.
  11. Abdur Razzaq reached a milestone of 5000 one day international runs and in the process became the fourth cricketer to complete the all rounder’s double of 5000 plus runs and 250 or more wickets. He now joins Sanath Jayasuriya (13428 runs; 322 wickets), Shahid Afridi (6643 runs; 307 wickets), and Jack Kallis (11023 runs; 261 wickets).
  12. Younis Khan’s duck is already his 20th in 210 innings of his career.
