Match 17 – Canada Vs Pakistan at Colombo


  1. Pakistan remains the only team so far to have won all three of their opening matches.
  2. Shahid Afridi (5-23) claimed his fifth five wicket haul in limited overs cricket and is continuing to be the leading wicket taker in this edition with 14 wickets overall. Prior to this edition, he had claimed just 7 wickets in 12 world cup matches.
  3. Afridi, however is continuing to have a disappointing World up with the bat as he has scored just 168 runs in 14 World cup innings with an uncharacteristic just 5 hits beyond the boundary.
  4. Umar Akmal (Pakistan) and Hansra (Canada) were the only batsman to score a six in the match.
  5. No batsman scored a fifty in this match.
  6. All Canadian bowlers except Khurram Chohan and TGGordon who combined to bowl 4 overs between them, were among the wickets.
  7. All Pakistani bowlers except Mohammed Hafeez were among the wickets as well.
  8. Misbah Ul Haq (37) is now the fourth leading run getter in this tournament with 185 runs in 3 matches.
  9. Saeed Ajmal, who played his first World cup match and claimed his first World cup wicket as well, returned to the Pakistan one day team after 4 months.

Match 16 – Netherlands Vs South Africa at Mohali


  1. Hashim Amla scored his first World cup ton in just his second match and the 8th hundred overall in his one day career.
  2. Unlike the previous match, South Africa began their bowling with two regular fast bowlers. J. Botha didn’t play in this match as well.
  3. AB DeVilliers (134) scored his third World cup hundred and a second consecutive hundred in this edition. This ton is also the eleventh of his limited overs career, overall.
  4. Imran Tahir (3-19), who became the first South African since the 1992 World cup to make his career debut in a World cup match has now claimed 7 wickets in his first two matches.
  5. Jack Kallis(2) is not having the best of starts in this World cup and has scored just 6 runs in the first two matches in this edition so far. Interestingly, in his last 10 innings he has not scored in double figures only thrice including the last 2 matches and this sequence of matches included five knocks over fifty.
  6. Ryan ten Doeschate, who scored a career best 119 against England earlier in this tournament, claimed his best bowling figures in World cups (3-72 in this match).
  7. As many as three Dutch bowlers gave away more than 70 runs.
  8. JP Duminy (40*) for the second consecutive match remained unbeaten in the forties. He has now scored 82 runs in two matches, facing just 68 deliveries and has hit three fours and four sixes.
