Match 14 –Sri Lanka Vs Kenya at Colombo

  1. Sri Lanka won the math by nine wickets and scored the required 143 runs in just 18.4 overs, but their innings didn’t include even a single sixer.
  2. Lasith Malinga became the second bowler in successive matches to claim six wickets that included a hat-trick after Kemar Roach achieved the feat against the Netherlands in the previous match.
  3. Malinga has an impressive World cup record of 24 wickets in just nine matches and 120 wickets in 78 matches overall in his career.
  4. Tharanga (67*) scored his 19th limited overs career half century
  5. Muralitharan (playing in his 34th World cup match already) has been among the wickets in all matches in this World cup so far and his overall tally of wickets in World cups is 57.
  6. Malinga’s hat-trick is also the seventh by a bowler in World cup cricket. Incidentally this is his second hat-trick in World cup, the only bowler to have achieved this feat.
  7. The Obuya brothers (Collins and David) both scored half centuries for Kenya in the match. Interestingly they were the only batsmen to score in double digits. Collins scored his 8th career fifty while David scored his 6th.
