1. The result is just the fourth tied one dayer in the annals of World cup. South Africa (twice), Australia, Sri Lanka and now India and England have been involved once in a tied one dayer in a World cup event.
2. Interestingly now, all World cups starting from the 1999 edition have all had one tied World cup match.
3. England had made some sort of a comeback to correct their recent one day record in India. Prior to this match England has lost 11 of their last 12 one dayers in India.
4. Sachin Tendulkar (120) had plenty of records in this match:
   1. The first cricketer to score a World cup 100 in his sixth world cup edition.
   2. Scored his fifth World cup hundred
   3. The first batsman to have scored a hundred by playing in more than 445 one day internationals (he played his 446 one dayer).
   4. Scored his last hundred almost a year back, an unbroken record 200* against South Africa on 24^th Feb 2010.
   5. Scored his first World cup hundred against England and his third world cup 100 in the sub continent.
5. Virat Kohli (8), who scored his fifth limited overs career hundred in the previous match and has scored 50 or more runs in an innings on 17 occasions of his 44 innings career so far, came into bat at number 7, for the third time in his career.
6. Kohli played his first one dayer against England and has now played against nine cricketing sides in his 47 match one day career so far.
7. Munaf Patel (2-70) has now claimed 10 wickets in five world cup matches.
8. James Anderson has conceded 90 or more runs in one day matches twice in the same month now, (Feb 2011).
9. Tim Bresnan (5-48) was the most economical among the bowlers from both the sides considered with an economy rate of 4.8, while runs were scored in the match overall at 6.7 runs per over.
10. Bresnan’s five wicket haul is his first in his 37 match limited overs career so far. He has claimed just 46 career one day wickets. He has not claimed a five wicket haul in any form of cricket for England prior to this match (Test cricket, T20, etc).
11. This becomes the third consecutive one day match this year in which the Indian batsmen have scored have scored 7 or more sixes in their innings. Tendulkar, Dhoni and Yusuf Pathan scored all seven sixes between them in this match.
12. Yusuf Pathan has now scored 9 sixes in his last 3 one day innings.
13. Strauss (158) leapfrogged to the top of the leading run getters list n this World cup with 246 runs in 2 matches.
14. Strauss’s 100 is his sixth in one dayers and his first in World cup matches. This hundred is also his first against India. He has now managed to score four of his six one day hundreds against Sub continent sides (Pakistan, India and Bangladesh). He has scored his other two against the West Indies.
15. Paul Collingwood (1) managed to register his fifth single digit score in his last 11 one day innings.
16. India has now posted 300+ scores on two consecutive world cup matches.
17. James Anderson has now given 163 runs in this World cup edition of his 19.5 overs with the wicket of Tendulkar in this match, his only wicket so far.
18. Anderson has now dismissed Tendulkar three times in the 11 matches they have played against each other.
19. Piyush Chawla has played 8 of his 23 one dayers against England and has claimed 8 wickets, including his 2-71 in this match.

1. Pakistan and Australia remain the only teams so far to have won both their opening encounters.
2. Younis Khan (72), in his tenth World cup match followed his first World cup fifty in the previous match with another fifty plus knock in this match.
3. Younis Khan and Misbah Ul Haq both scored half centuries in two matches in a row so far in this edition.
4. Shoiab Akhtar (2-42) has now claimed 29 wickets in 18 World cup matches. Both his dismissals in the match were dismissed “Bowled”. 85 of his 246 wickets in one day cricket (more than one-third) have been “Bowled” dismissals.
5. Shahid Afridi (4-34) claimed his third four wicket haul in limited overs cricket and is also now the leading wicket taker in this edition with 9 wickets overall. Prior to this edition, he had claimed just 7 wickets in 12 world cup matches so far.
6. Pakistan leaked 29 runs as extras in contrast to just 9 runs as extras from the Sri Lankan team.
7. Sri Lanka as a team managed to score just 2 sixes for the second consecutive World cup match.
8. Chamara Silva (57) scored his fifth fifty in World cup cricket and twelfth of his 65 match limited overs career so far. He scored his fifty coming into bat at number 6 and scored the lone fifty for Sri Lanka in the match.

1. Tamim Iqbal (44) top scored for Bangladesh for the second consecutive match in this World cup. He has now managed to score a fifty in consecutive world cup matches against India. He scored 51 in the previous edition against India. Interestingly on both the occasions he was dismissed by Munaf Patel.
2. Bangladesh had a relatively quieter batting opposition in terms of the number of sixes scored relative to their first match against India in which seven sixes were scored against them. KJ O’Brien scored the solitary sixer for Ireland in the entire match.
3. Shafiul Islam who didn’t exactly have an auspicious start to his World cup campaign, with an expensive 1-69 in 7 overs had a reversal of fortunes with a match-winning 4-21 in 8 overs.
4. Tamim Iqbal has now scored 114 runs in the first 2 matches of this edition. Overall he has scored just 286 runs in 11 matches at an average of 26.
5. Mohammed Ashraful returned to the Bangladesh team and came into bat at number 7. This is just the second instance in which Ashraful batted at number 7 in his career spanning 10 years and 165 matches.
6. The O’Brien brothers top scored for Ireland with Niall scoring 38 and Kevin scoring 37.
7. Ed Joyce become the sixth cricketer to represent two countries in the annals of limited overs cricket (Ireland and England).  Others include – Kepler Wessels (Australia and South Africa, Clayton Lambert (USA and the Wes Indies), Anderson Cummins (Canada and West Indies), Dougie Brown (England and Scotland), and Eoin Morgan (Scotland and England).
8. AR White played his 50^th limited overs match, becoming the second Irish player to achieve the feat, joining Kevin O’Brien.
9. Ashraful claimed his only wickets in World cups. He has also claimed 17 wickets in his limited overs career so far.
10. Shafiul Islam’s four wicket haul is already his fourth in 25 matches. His overall wickets tally stands at 37.

1. Ricky Ponting (12) has so far scored just 40 runs in this World cup edition that included just one hit to the boundary and he has faced 64 deliveries for those runs as well. Quite an uncharacteristic beginning to the Australian captain, this World cup.
2. Ponting also was dismissed in a bizarre fashion, stumped to a fast bowler (Southee).
3. Shaun Tait (3-35) continues to have a good run in World cups and has now claimed 28 wickets in 13 matches. Outside World cups, Tait has claimed the equal amount of wickets (28) in 17 matches. He has now claimed 5 wickets in this World cup edition so far.
4. Mitchell Johnson (4-33) has now claimed 4 wickets in each of his first two World cup matches, which makes him the leading wicket-taker in the tournament so far with 8 wickets for just 52 runs. Johnson also becomes only the third Australian bowler to claim four or more wickets in consecutive World cup matches, others in the list being Gary Gilmour and Shane Warne.
5. With more than 400 runs scored, the match overall witnessed a rare sequence of a lone spinner claiming just 1 of the 13 wickets that fell in the match overall (Smith : 1 – 44).
6. Shane Watson (62) has now scored fifties in 4 of his last 5 one day internationals. Watson also scored the only sixer in the entire match.
7. Hamish Bennett and Tim Southee were once again the only New Zealand bowlers among the wickets. They claimed all the three Australian wickets between them and the duo along with Oram claimed all 10 Kenyan wickets in just 13.5 overs between them in the previous match.
8. Hamish Bennett has now claimed 20 wickets in 10 one day internationals.
9. Australia almost had history repeat when a lower order batsman top scoring against them. Cremer (Zimbabwe) top scored coming in at number 9 in their previous match, while Nathan McCullum top scored for New Zealand with a 52, coming in to bat at number 8.
10. MG Johnson is the third Australian bowler to capture four or more wickets in consecutive games after GJ Gilmour and SK Warne
11. This half century is also Nathan’s career third and the three have been scored this year.
12. Michael Clarke achieved a career millstone of  6000 runs in limited overs cricket, becoming the ninth Australian to enter this bracket.

1. Shivnaraine Chanderpaul’s 31 sums up a list of batsmen who played in World cup tournaments since 1996 and have all scored less than 35 runs in their first match in this edition (Tendulkar, Ponting, Kallis, Steve Tikolo and Chanderpaul)
2. Darren Bravo (73) scored a half century on his World cup debut. This is also his third one day fifty in 12 innings so far.
3. Devon Smith returned to the West Indies team after nearly one and a half years.
4. The match had a unique instance of spinners opening the bowling for both the sides (Botha and Benn).
5. AB DeVilliers scored his second World cup hundred and tenth overall in his limited overs career.
6. Ramnaresh Sarwan (2) registered just his second single digit score in 15 World cup innings. He has however scored just 5 runs in his last 2 World cup innings.
7. Darren Sammy joined the long list of first time captains in a World cup match in this edition, while Graeme Smith remains part of a small list of non first-time captains in this World cup.
8. West Indies didn’t bowl a single wide in their 11 extras conceded.
9. Imran Tahir became the first South African since the 1992 World cup to make his career debut in a World cup match.
10. Chris Gayle (2) has been interestingly dismissed for 2 in the first matches for the West Indies in all the last 3 World cups.

1. Younis Khan (50), a veteran of 214 one day internationals in a career spanning 11 years played in just his ninth World cup match and scored his first World cup fifty.
2. Three Pakistani batsmen scored fifties in the match and all other batsmen all scored in single digits.
3. Umar Akmal top scored for Pakistan with 71 on his World cup debut match. This also is his seventh one day fifty.
4. Shahid Afridi (5-16) claimed his fourth five wicket haul in limited overs cricket and his first in World cups as well.
5. Kamran Akmal’s 55 is the first fifty by a Pakistani wicket keeper in World cups after Moin Khan in the 1999 edition.
6. This is just the second instance of Pakistan posting a 300+ score in a World cup match in the last 6 editions. The last time they scored more than 300 runs team total was in 2007.
7. Kenyan team conceded a total of 46 extras in the match, the fourth maximum conceded by a team in a World Cup match.  In the process, Kenya clinched the record of most wides in a World cup match (37).
8. Shahid Afridi adds to the list of first time captains in a World cup match in this edition.

1. Bas Zuiderant is the only player to have appeared in all World cups for the Netherlands since the 1996 edition.
2. Ravi Bopara’s six in the final over of the match was England’s only sixer in the match against the Netherlands’ three sixes (all by Doeschate).
3. Jimmy Anderson’s expensive 0-72 sets a unique pattern in which the new ball bowlers of few teams ending up on the most expensive side. He joins the list that includes – Sreesanth (India), Shafiul Islam (Bangladesh), and Khurram Chohan (Canada), so far.
4. Graeme Swann (2-35) in his debut World cup match was the most economical bowler in the entire match.
5. Ryan ten Doeschate had a remarkable match scoring 119 off 100 deliveries and claimed 2-47 in his 10 overs.
6. Doeschate also claimed his 50^th one day international wicket in just his 28^th match.
7. England’s Kevin Pietersen and Netherlands’ Doeschate were both born within 3 days of each other, 27^th June 1980 and 28^th June 1980 respectively.
8. Kevin Pietersen (39) has now scored a fifty only once in his last 23 innings.
9. Doeschate has scored at least a fifty in seven of his last 9 one day innings.
10. Strauss (England) and Borren (Netherlands) led their respective teams for the first time in a World cup match.
11. Doeschate’s 119 is also the first by a Netherlands batsman against a Test playing nation.

1. Ricky Ponting had an interesting and uncharacteristic stint in the middle as he didn’t score even a single boundary in his 36 ball 28 runs. He was the only batsman in the entire match to have scored 10 runs or more and didn’t score a single boundary.
2. Ricky Ponting is now the only Australian to appear in 5 world cups starting from 1996 till this edition.
3. Graeme Cremer (37) the highest scorer for Zimbabwe in the match came into bat at number 9.
4. Cremer was also the most economical of the Zimbabwe (1-41 in 10 overs)
5. Shaun Tait (2-34) has extended his good run in World cups and he has now claimed 25 wickets in 12 matches. Outside World cups, Tait has claimed 28 wickets in 17 matches, a relatively lesser success rate compared to his World cup record.
6. Mitchell Johnson (4-19) who made his limited overs debut more than 5 years back played his first World cup match and claimed 4 wickets as well. Johnson now joins Munaf Patel (India) and Bennett (New Zealand) as leading wicket takers of this tournament so far.
7. Sachin Tendulkar (37 World cup matches) and Ricky Ponting (40 World cup matches) are the only batsmen to have played in more than 35 matches in World cups in this edition and both were run out after scoring 28 runs in their respective matches, now.
8. Michael Clarke (58*) has now scored fifties in his last 3 one day internationals.
9. Shane Watson (79) has now scored fifties in 3 of his last 4 one day internationals.
10. Australia’s 262 is the lowest score the first innings score set by Test playing nations so far in this edition.
11. Jason Krejza, played his first World cup match, and only his second one day international at an age of 28 and returned with the second bets bowling figures in the match with 2-28.

1. Mahela Jayawardene (100) scored just his second World cup hundred in 25 appearances.  This was also his 13^th One day international hundred.
2. Sri Lanka are without the services of Sanath Jayasuriya for the first instance in the last few world cup editions. Jayasuriya has now missed two records which Tendulkar has managed to achieve:
   1. Most capped one day international player (445 matches)
   2. Leveling the record of most appearing in most editions of the world cup (6).
3. Sri Lanka as a team managed to score just 2 sixes in their massive total of 332 and interestingly Canada scored 2 sixes as well as part of their team total of 122 all out.
4. Khurram Chohan emulated Shafiul Islam (Bangladesh) and Sreesanth (India) in a new ball bowler being the most expensive bowler in their respective sides in their first world cup matches. Khurram conceded 62 runs of his 8 overs.
5. John Davison (aged 40 years), who was a revelation in the 2003 World cup and also Canada’s all-time leading run scorer had a poor match as he didn’t score any runs opening the batting. However, he claimed 2 wickets and extended his tag as Canada’s third leading wicket taker in one day cricket – 33 wickets in 36 matches.
6. As many as 5 Sri Lankan players were playing in their first World cup matches – Ajantha Mendis, Thilan Saramwareera, Thisera Perera, Angelo Matthews and Chamara Kapugedera
7. Muralitharan (playing in his 32^nd World cup match already) with 2 wickets in the match has now claimed 55 World cup wickets.
8. TG Gordon became the 71^st cricketer to represent Canada in limited overs internationals also the 29^th to make his debut in a world cup match.
9. Today’s match marks an interesting instance of three wicket-keeper captains being involved in within the first 3 matches of the World cup – Dhoni (India), Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) and Bagai (Canada).

1. New Zealand managed to reverse the fortunes in the same venue in which they lost heavily to India in their last warm-up game (Lost by 117 runs).
2. Steve Tikolo and Thomas Odoyo remain the only Kenyan cricketers to have played in all the World cups since the 1996 edition.
3. Jimmy Kamande, Kenya’s skipper in this tournament appeared in just his sixth World cup match, though he made his World cup debut in 1999.
4. The first three matches of the World cup has now witnessed first time World cup skippers for their respective teams:

5. Kenya (69) is the fifth lowest team total in a completed innings in a world cup match.
6. Kenya’s 10 wicket defeat by an opposition team is the second instance in World cups. South Africa won by ten wickets against them in the 2003 edition.
7. Kenya continued the tradition of brothers appearing in the team in a world cup match – NN Odhiambo and SO Ngoche, both failing to score in the match and both were dismissed one after the other by Tim Southee.
8. Bennett, Oram and Southee claimed all 10 Kenyan wickets in just 13.5 overs between them.
9. Hamish Bennett claimed 4 eickets in his first ever world cup match. He has now claimed 18 wickets in 9 matches.
10. Tim Southee (3-13), also playing in his first World cup matches has now claimed 55 wickets in 44 matches. One fifth of his victims were dismissed bowled (11 / 55).
11. James Franklin (72 wickets in 84 one dayers) didn’t bowl a single over in the 23.5 overs New Zealand bowled and was slotted to bat in the middle order.
